Carnival Liberty's Seaside Theatre Open for Business

Index of earlier Carnival Liberty information

The Seaside Theatre went into operation on Carnival Liberty's preview cruise which took the ship from the shipyard in Northern Italy to Civitavecchia.

The 12 x 22 foot LED screen will be in almost constant use, day and night. The programming begins with the morning TV show by the cruise director (which is also broadcast into the cabins) and a news feed (such as CNN) for those who want to catch up on the day's news while they have breakfast by the pool. Most of the rest of the daytime programming will be without sound so it doesn't interfere with the normal poolside activities. There will be movies and concert films (with sound) in the evenings, and a Sony Playstation will be connected to the giant screen for kids'/teens' events under cruise staff supervision during off-hours. Special events, such as the Super Bowl, will also be broadcast on the big screen.

Since Carnival knew there were passenger concerns about the late-night operation of the screen and the 70,000-watt sound system, they had an opportunity to check out the system before Carnival Liberty left the yard. They ran a concert video and turned up the sound beyond normal levels. Then they checked various areas and cabins under the pool area, and Carnival reports they all passed inspection, and the audio could not be heard outside the pool area.
The 110,000-grt Carnival Liberty is entering service with a 3-night preview cruise which stopped in Dubrovnik, Croatia. The ship then commences Carnival's first-ever Mediterranean program. In the fall Carnival Liberty will reposition to Ft. Lauderdale for a winter series of 6- and 8-night Caribbean cruises, before returning to the Mediterranean for the summer of 2006. The Conquest-class vessel brings Carnival Cruise Lines' fleet size to twenty-one.
