Carnival Liberty Floats Out

One of the big steps in building a ship, is when the drydock, where the hull has been built, is flooded and the ship floats out for the first time. Carnival's next ship, Carnival Liberty, took that step earlier this week at Fincantieri's yard at Monfalcone (Italy).
Carnival Liberty was floated to the wetdock where it will remain while the interior is fitted out over the next six months.

The 110,000-ton Conquest-class ship is scheduled for delivery in July 2005. Of the 1,487 staterooms, 60% will offer an ocean view with 60% of those featuring a private balcony.

Initial deployment will be in the Mediterranean for Carnival's first-ever series of Mediterranean cruises. The eight 12-day cruises from Rome (Civitavecchia) will run from July 20 thru October 12. Its 16-day transatlantic crossing sails on October 26, putting it in is new homeport of Ft. Lauderdale on November 9.

Once in Ft. Lauderdale, Carnival Liberty is scheduled for a pattern of year round 6- and 8-day Caribbean cruises.
