* When Is a Magazine Not a Magazine? July 1 - P&O Cruises' new 2010 brochure
was issued yesterday, and although most of our readers will never see one
(P&O doesn't generally market outside the UK, except for their world
cruises), if successful, it could become a model for others in the cruise
industry.
* Cruise Only with the Luggage You Can Carry July 1 - Several months ago we told you about
what seemed like a good idea at the time. Costa had partnered with
super-low-fare, no-frills airline Ryanair to advertise and sell cruises on
the airline's website. Now Ryanair is eliminating one more
"frill" that will put Costa in a strange position, should the
customers decide they want to fly across Europe on Ryanair to board their
Costa Cruise.
* Why is the Godmother Blu? July 1 - A godmother has been named for
AIDA's next ship, AIDAblu, and she comes with something: a marketing
partnership. Noted German international designer Jette Joop will name
the line's seventh vessel on February 9, 2010, at Hamburg, but AIDA
passengers will soon be seeing evidence of Ms Joop aboard the other AIDA
vessels.

* Staying Put in Jacksonville - for Now June 30 - Carnival Cruise Lines has signed a
new two-year lease with the Port of Jacksonville, apparently in
recognition that the port's new terminal isn't imminently moving forward
anytime soon and the old terminal is going to disappear in 2012.
* Working His Way Across the Atlantic June 30 - Continuing a long tradition of
stars traveling between transatlantic engagements via Cunard liners,
musician James Taylor last week sailed aboard Queen Mary 2 to
Southampton to begin a 22-concert tour in Europe.
While aboard QM2, he gave the passengers two
standing-room-only concerts, signed autographs, posed for pictures and
answered questions for the passengers. We have a video
on our blog with Taylor talking about the experience of taking a
transatlantic crossing with Cunard.
* Wear This Not That with That Life Jacket June 30 - Tired of hearing about food or wine
theme cruises? Crystal has really used their ingenuity in coming up with a
new theme. Passengers aboard Crystal Serenity's 12-day Mediterranean
sailing on October 20 will be stepping into a different world - the
world of fashion.
* A New Twist on Something We've Seen Before June 29 - It's hard to count all the
"condominium-like" plans we've seen over the years where an
older cruise ship would be turned into condominiums and sail around the
world letting the owners come and go as they please after a hefty one-time
investment. They never quite seem to come into existence, however. There's a new one that is now offering basically the same
thing for sale, except with two twists. It's not going anywhere (it will
be more or less permanently moored at Port Canaveral), and it will provide
assisted living for the elderly.
* Green Times Two June 29 - The 133,500-ton MSC Splendida is
almost ready to leave the yard. The handover will be on Saturday. Like its
sister, MSC Fantasia, it will be extremely environmentally-friendly. MSC today highlighted some of the ways.
* Four Times Around the World June 29 - The British like to travel. They
also like long vacations. This is evidenced by P&O's ambitious plans
for four - yes, four - world voyages during the 2010/2011 winter season.
* More Trouble for Alaska June 26 -
When Cruise West announced their 2010 Alaskan itineraries, what they
didn't say was almost as important to the state's economy as what they did
say.
* A British Godmother for a British (Based) Ship June 26 -
Celebrity Equinox will be named in Southampton on July 29 with a bottle of
champagne custom-made by the Corning Museum of Glass, the same folks who
will operate the glassblowing demonstrations on the ship and its sister,
Celebrity Solstice. The ship will be homeported at Southampton for the
European season, sourcing most of their passengers from the UK, so that
calls for a British godmother.
* Another P&O Ship Hits the Water June 26 -
P&O's Azura was floated out today at Fincantieri's Monfalcone yard in
a traditional ceremony. Photos are here on the
CND website.
* Dining in an Oasis June 25 - Yesterday Royal Caribbean revealed
the dining options that will be available on Oasis of the Seas, and guess
what - there are a lot of them. That's probably not a surprise, but the
announcement did say something very important to (and for) the cruise
industry.
* Limited Only by Your Imagination June 25 - For most people, the cruise is as
much about the interesting destinations as it is the shipboard experience.
Having your experience ashore tailored to your exact wishes can make your
vacation the vacation of a lifetime, and that's just what Silversea's new
Silver Shore Concierge service aims to do. Whatever you want to do ashore before, during or after
your cruise, they'll attempt to arrange it - things you wouldn't normally
think possible.
* Temporarily Relocated June 25 - When the fire aboard Royal Princess
ended the cruise early last week in Egypt, for most passengers aboard, it
was a disappointing end to a vacation that was cut short. But one
passenger, however, was left "homeless."

available to those outside the travel industry. Besides the latest news,
our site has evolved to include lots of other useful information about the
