Costa Luminosa Delivered

The 92,600-ton Costa Luminosa was delivered by Fincantieri today at their Marghera yard near Venice. It is the thirteenth ship in the Costa fleet, and it will enter revenue service on May 5 (2009). The ship carries 2,260 passengers double occupancy, or 2,826 in total.

The theme of the interior design, by noted maritime architect and designer Joe Farcus, is light in all its forms. The video below (in Italian) will give you an idea of the concept.

Costa Luminosa has a special focus on environmental protection and is the first in the Costa fleet to be fitted for "cold ironing" which allows the ship to plug into shore power and shut down its engines while in ports equipped to provide the electricity.

Costa Luminosa will be officially named in Genoa in a unique double ceremony with Costa Pacifica on June 5.
