Carnival Fascination Arrives at Jacksonville

The 70,367-ton Carnival Fascination passes under the Dames Point Bridge as it arrives in Jacksonville on Saturday (September 20, 2008) to begin year-round, four- and five-day cruises from JaxPort. The 2,052-passenger is the largest cruise ship to ever base from Jacksonville, and Carnival officials expect the vessel to carry about 170,000 passengers on an annual basis. JaxPort officials estimate the 855-foot-long ship will have a $30 million annual impact on the local economy.
A reception was held onboard to welcome the ship to Jacksonville. At the reception, Carnival Fascination Captain Placido Tumminello (left) received a plaque from Dr. William Mason, JAXPORT’s incoming chairman of the board, in recognition of the ship’s new Jacksonville-based schedule.
