Cape Liberty Opens for Business

The view of the Manhattan skyline with the Statue of Liberty (at left) from the end of the pier at Cape Liberty is unmatched. Right now only the people parking at the temporary parking lot see this view (unless you walk to the end of the pier), but this is the site where Royal Caribbean's permanent terminal building will be built.

This location is part of the attraction for Royal Caribbean. as noted in today's article, the port is only a 20-minute sail from the Verrazano Bridge. Royal Caribbean's former port of embarkation in Manhattan is another 40 minutes' sail away. Not only is the location convenient for the ship, but it's also easy for passengers to get to Cape Liberty. Royal Caribbean previously published information about Cape Liberty's location and ground transportation available from the link here on our website.
The ships currently dock about a half mile away from the interim terminal. This view gives you an idea of the distance with Empress of the Seas at the current berth.
The important thing is that you don't have to walk there. Royal Caribbean has a fleet of airport-style buses standing by. The flow back and forth between the terminal and the ship is constant. There are enough of the of the buses that there are always two waiting at either end. so you don't have to wait - both for embarkation and disembarkation of the ships.

This photo also gives you an idea of the rather drab surroundings at the port. The bright spot, of course, is the Royal Caribbean terminal building.

The city of Bayonne has plans of a major development of the port area. Eventually, it will become a place for passengers to come for pre- and post-cruise stays with hotels and attractions such as an aquarium (in the former navy base's drydock), a marina, a nature walk and a golf course.

The permanent Royal Caribbean terminal and berths for two ships will be located at the end of the pier with that view of the New York Skyline and Statue of Liberty shown above.
