AIDAluna Named at Palma

For the first time, AIDA Cruises named a ship from aboard. AIDAluna was named Saturday night (April 4, 2009) at Palma de Majorca. The ceremony took place on the ship's bow. Here you can see the naming party on the bow with more than 2,100 guests looking on.

Above, the ship's godmother, German supermodel Franziska Knuppe, presses the plunger that released the bottle of champagne.
Following the naming, the naming party toasts AIDAluna under the fireworks display celebrating the new ship. 
The neck of the champagne bottle was mounted on a plaque and presented to Capt. Lutz Leitzsch who will permanently display it on the ship's bridge.
